3492. Herbert Sartelle, California Landscape Painting
Herbert Sartelle (1885-1955) Small gem of a painting. Oil on board, framed dimensions are approx. 8 1/4" x 10". At age 18, Sartelle moved out of his parent's home to join the Barnum & Bailey Circus working as a magician. In 1909 he returned to New York City to work for Rogers & Hammerstein and later with R.K.O. circuit. During his 25 years in show business he painted for pleasure. In 1928 he settled in Los Angeles painting and working as magician. A highly prolific landscape painting, he painted many desert scenes of the Palm Springs and San Diego areas' rolling hills and mountains with its many lupines and poppies.
